Perfect solution to make sure your yaki-onigiri doesn't go soft!
Have you ever tried fast food from Japan?
In Japan, there are various types of ready-to-eat foods, which are usually used for packing your lunchbox or eaten as snacks. Japanese ready-to-eat food tastes pretty amazing and is often quite practical!
You can find a variety of fast food in Japan but nothing is as popular as the onigiri (a ball of rice usually with a filling). In this feature, we talk about yaki onigiri (grilled onigiri), basically a crispy soy glazed rice ball that remains soft in the center.
This onigiri brand packages its frozen onigiri in detachable plastic sections so you can warm them individually in a microwave.
But its not as simple as just sticking them in the oven! This plastic container has a groove for keeping the onigiri upright so that the crispy outside doesn't go soft.
You will see the words "ここに立てる", which means "place standing here."
Keeping it upright like this ensures the onigiri is warmed evenly too!
This ready-to-eat onigiri will not heat evenly when kept on its side.
We were quite surprised by this packaging detail as it does not compromise on the texture and flavor that makes a yaki-onigiri delicious!
Hope you get a chance to try some of the many ready-to-eat delicacies in Japan :)
