Gingko Forecast for 2018

One of the most exciting sights with the arrival of autumn in Japan is that of the Gingko leaves turning a bright yellow and glimmering golden in the sun. The forecast for 2018 was announced on October 3, so if you're visiting Japan in the coming months, read on.

Tohoku

Although many people prefer the warmth of red and orange autumnal colors, some love to see Gingko leaves turn yellow. According to the latest weather news, the average temperature in the northeastern part of Japan in October-November this year is higher than in previous years, so the best viewing period of gingko will be slightly delayed. Best time: early November

Kanto & Chubu

In the Kanto and Chubu regions, including Tokyo, after the heat waves earlier this year, the temperature plummeted in September. Even then, this year the color will probably change slightly later than last year. One of the best places to enjoy this in the University of Tokyo, Hongo Campus. Best time for Kanto region: mid to late November Best time for Chubu region: late October

Kansai & San'in

If you plan to visit Osaka, Tottori, Kobe, etc. please make sure to confirm road conditions as well as other modes of transport due to these areas being affected by the typhoons earlier this year. Best time: mid-November

Shikoku & Kyushu

The temperature in these warm areas is generally high in November, so the beauty of gingko can only be seen around late November. Best time: mid to late November
