From Hello Kitty on a shinkansen (bullet train) to Kumamon on the Ginza Line, Japan has a love affair with mascots and characters featuring on trains.
This time, Rilakkuma, the cutest of bears, steals the show. To celebrate Rilakkuma's 15th anniversary, Yamanote Line in Tokyo will be wrapped in various characters of the Rilakkuma family!
The train will be running from August 1 - 15. Although no schedule has been provided, one loop around the Yamanote Line, one of the most popular to cover tourist spots in Tokyo, takes about an hour. So if you plan to use it, you're bound to see this kawaii train.
Three main things to look out for
First, at the front of the train, you have Rilakkuma peeping through the driver's window!
Second, by the door you also have Korilakkuma and Chairoikoguma saying "gao, gao" (roaarr)!
Third spot is inside the train. In the first, last and 6th carriage, when you look up to grab on the handle, you will be surprised to see the cartoon-character costumes above you! In classic Rilakkuma style, you can see Rilakkuma asking you to relax...
Exterior
As you stand on the platform, you can see Rilakkuma, Kiiroitori, Korilakkuma and Chairoikoguma on each carriage.
Here, you see Rilakkuma dressed as a panda since Ueno (上野) is famous for its panda in the zoo.
You also see Ikebukuro, which is known for its many owls!
The character costume hangs by the door as if its really drying while the train moves.
Interior
As you look above the shelves for luggage, you see the cutest illustrations of Rilakkuma and the other characters.
Blowing a snot bubble in his sleep!
Although known to be lazy, you can see him offering a seat to the wee bird, Kiiroitori!
