Yobuko is located in the northern edge of Saga prefecture and has been prospered by the fishing industry from a long time ago. Yobuko no Asaichi, the morning market held everyday except New Year’s day is famous for one of the three big morning markets in Japan. Forty to 60 booth shops which sell mainly fresh seafood are lined up on Asaichi Street. Squids from Genkainada, the rough and cold sea year around, are a specialty of Yobuko. The good taste of fresh squid sashimi have built a reputation and 900,000 tourists visit here every year. The town becomes more lively in June every year because of the grand festival “Yobuko Otsunahiki.”

The morning market is held everyday except New Year’s day along the 200 meter Asaichi Street. They have 40 shops on weekdays and 60 on weekends. The shops sell mainly fresh seafood, salted and dried squid, seasonal fruits and flowers. Conversations with shop owners is one of the special joys of the morning market.

Yobuko Ohashi, the 1st place of Saga’s new 100 scenic spots

This is a large bridge, 728-meters long, which opened in 1989, and connects Yobuko and Kabechima, Karatsu city. You can feel the sea wind while you are walking along the promenade. At low tide, you can go and play on the beach. This spot won the 1st place among “Saga’s new 100 scenic spots”.
