Yamashita Park

Yamashita Park (“Yamashita-koen” in Japanese), the first waterfront park in Japan that stretches 700 m along the ocean was built in 1930 upon the rubble of the Great Kanto Earthquake. It is a wonderful place to feel close to the ocean and is full of visitors daily with both local and foreign visitors alike. The park acts as a great place to take a refreshing breath of fresh air amid your travels and shopping located near the Marine Tower and Chinatown. Yamashita Park is also well known for its beautiful roses that bloom during the spring and fall which are the symbol of Yokohama.

Blue sky, blue ocean

Spreading out in front of Yamashita Park is the Yokohama Harbor with its bright blue waters and sky. Stationed in the port is the historical liner, the Hikawa Maru which at one point traveled all over the world. Nowadays, it is possible to board the ship and take a look around the preserved interior and engine rooms.

Osanbashi Yokohama International Passenger Terminal

Located next to Yamashita Park is the Osanbashi Yokohama International Passenger Terminal. You can get your fill of stunning panoramic views of Yokohama from the roof which is open 24 hours a day. This is a great place to relax and pass your time under the spreading blue skies. The clear views of day are of course spectacular, but so are those of the sparkling city at night.

Rose garden with 400 flowers

Inside of Yamashita Park is a rose garden that has around 400 flowers of 60 different types of roses. These roses bloom every year in the spring and fall. When it becomes rose season large amounts of visitors come to appreciate the multi-colored spectacle of the flowers. One special feature of the park is observing the beautiful flowers with the impressive Hikawa Maru ship and the Marine Tower in the background.

Enveloped in the stunning night views of the city

The night views from the Minatomirai district situated right next to Yamashita Park are also miraculous. After the sun sets, the Marine Tower which stands before the park lights up with romantic illuminations. In fact, the whole surrounding area is illuminated enveloping Yamashita Park in a fantastical glow.
