Tachineputa festival is one of the three Nebuta festivals in Aomori and is held in the beginning of August. Three of Tachineputa from Tachineputa no Yakata appear during the festival. The biggest one is 23 meters high. It is said that the moving Tachineputa, with a height of a 7-storied building, looks like a scene from the Japanese special effects movie. This is a popular festival with many visitors.

It is said that the gigantic Neputa, which originated from a Chinese festival, was first recorded in Goshogawara circa 1907. The festival disappeared in the Taisho period (1912-1926) but restarted in 1998, first time in 80 years. The section for learning history is something you can’t miss if you wish to understand everything about Tachineputa.

In Tachineputa no Yakata, workshops for pasting paper on Neputa and coloring are held for free. After the workshop, you can get a certificate. There are also workshops where you can make a Kingyo, golden fish, Neputa and Toro, or Japanese lantern, and paper fan (Workshop fee is required). The pieces made in the workshop are popular as a one-of-a-kind souvenir.

Observation lounge “Harunire” is located on the top floor of this building which is the tallest building in Goshogawara city. Local food can be enjoyed in the grazed room where you can see the sun sinking into Tsugaru Plain, Mt. Iwaki and Mt. Hakkoda at dusk.
