Showa Roman Kura

(Source : )
Showa Roman Kura is a museum that was renovated from a rice storage warehouse (kura) built in the early 1900s. The inside displays vintage Japan from the early to mid 1900s and makes visitors feel like they've traveled back in time. In the facility, which has exhibits of old toys and models of residences, stores and classrooms, there are also restaurants where local specialties of Oita can be savored. The shopping streets that surround the Showa Roman Kura as its center are modeled as a "Showa town" so it is very enjoyable to walk around.

Recreation of a Showa Town

In the eight shopping streets in Bungo-takada, where Showa Roman Kura is located, there are around 40 stores that are modeled after the Showa-style buildings and some stores display historic items from the Showa period. There are also free bonnet buses operating on the weekends and holidays. Take a walk and explore this nostalgic townscape.

Dagashiya no Yume Museum (Candy Store Museum)

In the Dagashiya no Yume Museum, there is an exhibit of 60,000 nostalgic Japanese toys, that were handpicked from the museum director's collection of 250,000 dagashiya (old-style Japanese candy store) toys, the largest collection in Japan. You may encounter a rare treasure.
