Shitamachi Museum with its typical Japanese appearance exhibits precious items and documents from the old days, with an aim to pass on to coming generations the culture and traditions of Shitamachi (area in Tokyo where merchants and artisans lived).  Whereas in normal museums, there are merely exhibits behind glass cases, this is a model of a residence from approximately 100 years ago where one can experience the Japanese people's old way of living. On the second floor, there are children's toys from back in the day on exhibit that visitors are free to play with. There are also exhibits about the history of Ueno and Asakusa.
