Located in Miyazaki prefecture, Saitobaru Kofungun is one of Japan's largest cluster of burial mounds. There are over 300 mounds scattered in an area of 3 km by 2 km. It has been featured in Japanese mythology, and it is a popular destination as a power spot. Over 2,000 cherry trees bloom at once in spring. Along with the cherry blossoms, over 300,000 canola flowers bloom at around the same time. The combination of the cherry blossoms and the rape blossoms creates a beautiful scene. There are no tall buildings in this area to detract from the amazing nature.

Cherry blossoms and Rape Blossoms at the Same Time

The most amazing feature of the Saitobaru Mounds is the collaboration between the cherry blossoms and the rape blossoms. The beautiful contrast of pink and yellow is breathtaking. Visitors are allowed to enter the rape blossom flower field, so you can have a unique experience of viewing the distant cherry blossoms being surrounded 360 degrees by the rape flowers.

Saito Flower Festival

Every year from late March through early April, an event called Seito Hana Matsuri (Saito Flower Festival) is held. During the event, various kinds of stalls are set up, and they have a variety of shows on the stage. Visitors of all ages can enjoy the event.

Tsuma Shrine

Tsuma Shrine is located in the vicinity of the Saitobaru Mounds. The myth says that Ninigi-No-Mikoto, a Shinto deity, descended to the earth and fell in love with a princess and got married here. This shrine is known as a spiritual place for matchmaking. Charms and ema (wooden prayer plaques) offered at this shrine are heart-shaped.
