Located just a short walk from Kushiro City’s famous sightseeing spot of Nusamai Bridge is Restaurant Izumiya, a restaurant so famous that there’s nobody in the town that isn’t at least familiar with the name. This restaurant has been loved by the locals throughout its long history dating back to 1959, and the signature dish is none other than the soul food of Kushiro, Spakatsu! Spakatsu was created the year following the opening of the store and became one of the well-known local delicacies of Kushiro City, selling an average of 100 – 150 plates a day during the week, and 2 or 3 times that amount on the weekends. Of course, you can find many other classic dishes on the menu at Izumiya like hamburg steak and spaghetti!
