Osu area has become prosperous as the temple town of Osu-kannon that has been attracting local popularity with the nickname of Kannon-san. It is counted as one of Japan's three biggest Kannon along with Asakusa-kannon in Tokyo and Tsu-kannon in Mie prefecture. They have fairs on the 18th and the 28th every month, which are bustling with antique markets, stalls or vendors, and lots of people.

There is a Friendship Square where Shintenchi-dori surrounding Osu and Higashinio-dori cross over. Two-meter-high beckoning cat object is the symbol of Osu. Its seating has a device to play the video introducing Osu several times a day.

Bansho-ji was opened by the father of Oda Nobunaga who was a powerful feudal lord in the Sengoku period. The temple was built in 1540 and has a long history and honorable origin. They show "Karakuri Ningyo Nobunaga," the wind-up doll play five times a day to learn about Oda Nobunaga's life. A great chance to witness the Japanese traditional craftsmanship of the wind-up dolls. On the 28th of every month at a fair, they give away freshly made mochi (rice cake) to worshippers.

Komehyo Nagoya in Osu area is a very popular and one of the largest recycle, reuse department store. You can buy jewels, articles of value, branded goods, clothing, cameras, Japanese kimono, and other secondhand goods here at cheaper prices. Limited time period events are also held like picking up as many clothes as can fit in a bag.

Osu area is establishing as a town of subculture these days, as maid cafes, cosplay cafes, hobby shops dealing with anime-related goods and figurines are rapidly increasing in numbers. Also, this is the host place of World Cosplay Summit every August and cosplayers from all over the world parade in Osu.
