Hirayu Onsen is located at the base of Mt. Norikura. It is said that it was discovered by a military commander in the Sengoku Period when he saw a monkey healing its injury in the hot water. Hirayu area has a museum named Hirayu Minzokukan and a bus terminal, the Alps Kaido Hirayu, which serves as a base of the Okuhida area. The outdoor bath resort “Hirayu no Mori” is also a popular spot.

Fukuji Onsen is also called "Emperor Spring" because it is believed that the emperor at the time may have undergone medical treatment here around the 8th century. It has a favorable atmosphere of a small onsen resort and consists of only 11 inns. An old residence with irori (Japanese traditional fireplace) is opened to public as Mukashibanashino-sato Goheimochi-mura. There is also a public bath in the facility.

Shin-Hirayu Onsen is located in about the center of Okuhida Onsen resort. It has various types of accommodations including traditional Japanese inns and modern hotels. Although there is no drop-in onsen facility, you can rest your feet at the foot bath after walking around.

Tochio Onsen is amidst an abundance of nature and has a relaxed atmosphere. Neighboring Gamata River is known for its clear water and its river bank is a great place to stroll around. The drop-in onsen facility “Kojin no yu” made at the riverbank of Gamata River is a simple and spacious onsen with only the outside bath and a small hut for changing.

Because of this, most of the baths both at the drop-in onsen and hotels have great view of the mountains. The biggest sightseeing spot in Okuhida Onsen resort, Shin-Hotaka Ropeway base station is located in this area too.

Okuhida Bear Park is a guest ranch that has around 100 bears such as Asian black bears and brown bears. You can feed the bears, take photos with baby bears, or enjoy watching bear shows. The shop “Mori no Bussan-kan” in the park has a selection of cute bear goods. Don’t forget to check it out.

The waterfall in Hirayu Onsen area, Hirayu Waterfall is 64 meters high and 6 meters wide. During winter, from the middle to the end of February, a frozen waterfall can be seen. The frozen waterfall is beautifully illuminated during the Hirayu Waterfall Ice Festival held around this time every winter.
