Nishihama Beach

(Source : )
Hateruma is the southernmost inhabited island in the Okinawan chain. The island is known as "Hateruma Blue" for its beautiful blue water. Nishihama beach is situated in the northwest part of the island, and it is the only beach on the island where you can swim. It is said to be the most beautiful beach in Okinawa. The fine white sand beach stretches endlessly, and the water has stunning gradations of different shades of blue. It is a perfect place for swimming, gathering sea shells and snorkeling because of the shallow seashore. There is an observatory (Hoshizora Kansoku Tower) in Cape Takanazaki that is situated at the southern tip of the island. You can observe the greatest number of stars in Japan from here.

Magnificent Color of the Ocean: Hateruma Blue

You will never forget the color of the ocean. Beautiful gradations of emerald green and cobalt blue continue endlessly. When you look over the ocean from a higher view point, you will be amazed that there are so many shades of blue. You will see different tones of Hateruma Blue as the intensity of sunlight changes.

A Spot Situated on the North Side yet Famous for its Sunset

Nishihama is located on the north side of the island. However, it is known for beautiful sunsets as the sunlight reaches the north side of the island in the summer time. After a heavy rain, the sky turns even more magical. If you are lucky, you can see a rainbow and the sunset together.

Astronomical Observation Tower: The greatest Number of Stars in Japan

Hoshizora Kansoku Tower is situated at the southern tip of Hateruma Island. It has an astronomical telescope and a planetarium, and you can observe celestial bodies at night through the telescope. You can see the greatest number of stars in Japan as the observatory is situated on a beach where there are no houses and street lights.
