The house is designed like a big maze, where you can move into the next room only after figuring out the trick devised in each one. It is a fun challenge to find and figure out all these gimmicks in the house, which include rotating or sliding walls, as well as a floor that moves when slanted. It is designed with such sophistication in trickery that they say it is nearly impossible for a child to finish the course all on his/her own. Even some adults are unable to find his/her way out without help.

Along with 200 panels with photographs, the museum displays 500 ninja tools, such as darts, Makibishi caltrops, blowguns, a pair of soundless clogs, an umbrella equipped with poison arrows, and a pot used to store poison. With the aid of photographs, some panels show how a certain technique and/or skill is performed. You will find very interesting scenes including some that are familiar from a manga, anime or movie, such as a person swimming using a pipe-like tool with its tip popping out of the water surface or hiding under the ground.

Ninja Karakuri Yashiki is accompanied by a dojo (training hall) where you can experience throwing shuriken darts in the Togakure tradition. The staff will teach you how to hold and throw them. If you hit the target five times in a row, you can win a cool prize, a round paper fan. Let’s put your skill to the test!

Kids’ Ninja Village is a ninja-themed amusement park near Karakuri Yashiki where you can experience throwing shuriken darts as well as shooting darts through blowpipes. There are also other fun facilities and services which both children and adults can enjoy, such as the Ninja Archive, the athletic field in the forest for ninja training and the rental of ninja costumes.

Togakushi Jinja is a shrine whose premises lie primarily at the base of Mount Togakushi and which has a history of over 2,000 years. It is a holy place located in a mountainous area, and among the many sacred places is quite rare even for Japan. Aligned on both sides of the 2- km-long entrance path are 400-year-old giant Japanese cedar trees that emanate a powerful spiritual force. It is a very special spot where you can feel a sense of spirituality immersed in the rich and powerful wonder of nature.
