The building of The National Museum of Art, Osaka, was designed by famous architect César Pelli, known for his design of the World Financial Center in New York and Abeno Harukas in Osaka. The theme of the design is viability of bamboo and growth of modern art. The basement is the entrance which is rare for museums and exhibition rooms are on the second and third floor.

The museum collects modern artworks created mainly after World War II. The line up of the collection is works by famous artists such as Andy Warhol and Japanese artists who are active overseas including Kusama Yayoi, Yoko-o Tadanori and Morimura Yasumasa.
