Inside the city of Morioka, Iwate, Morioka History and Culture Museum is a cultural facility opened in 2011 at the corner of Morioka Castle Ruins Park (Iwate Park). Modeled after the concept, "Morioka's castle and castle town field museum," various exhibits show you how the city of Morioka looked like when it was a castle town. You can also observe the number of documents from which you can learn about how the castle town was built and how Morioka has modernized. Furthermore, you can also check famous festivals or tourist spots of Morioka. It is a great place to learn about this city.

Trademark of Morioka History and Culture Museum, Moriokadashi

Dashi exhibition hall is located on the first floor. Here, you can see the reproduction of the festival float called "Moriokadashi," with more than 300 years of history. Measuring 9 m high, the big float has became a popular exhibit at Morioka History and Culture Museum.

Learn about famous festivals of Morioka

In the festival permanent exhibition room, you can see the exhibits related to the famous festivals of Morioka such as Morioka Sansa Odori Festival and Chagu Chagu Horse Festival. You shouldn't miss the life size reproduction of the horse that is decorated with a gorgeous harness during the Chagu Chagu Horse Festival.

History and Culture zone where you can learn about the castle city of Morioka

In the "History and Culture zone" situated on the second floor, you can learn about the birth and the history of the castle city of Morioka. The highlight of this zone is "Castle town picture scroll theater" that shows you how the castle city looked like before! Here, you can see the video reproduction of the city, in which you can even see people walking and talking with a local accent.
