Joren Falls

(Source : youtube)
This waterfall, where Izu's number one famous clear water pours down a cliff, was selected one of "Japan's top 100 waterfalls." This area's specialty is wasabi (Japanese horseradish), which only grows in clean water. As if to prove this fact, wasabi fields line up around Joren falls. The 25-meter-high and 7-meter-wide fall surrounded by lush forests is mystical and, there is even a legend that says the master of the falls is a beautiful joro spider (nephila clavata). It is one of the tourist spots that represent Izu, an area that has been featured in Jfamous songs and novels in Japan.

Promenade in a Beautiful Lush Forest

After descending the stairs from the parking lot, there is a promenade that spans next to the clear river. This is the path leading to Joren falls and is a beautiful walkway surrounded by a lush forest. In the river, there are plenty of freshwater fish like ayu (sweetfish), and people who come here to fish can be seen as well. Take a walk while taking in the freshness of this therapeutic, clean air.

Wasabi Fields

The water from Joren falls is ideal for growing wasabi, which only grows in clear water. Wasabi fields are densely lined up next to the falls. While ground wasabi is known worldwide, the difference can really be tasted in the raw wasabi from this area. It has a strong flavor as opposed to the spiciness to other wasabi and has a fresh aftertaste.

Powerful Joren Falls

Once you get closer to the fall, you are overwhelmed by its impact and force. Maybe it is because of the splashing water that disperses when the water flows straight into the plunge pool, it feels slightly chilly even in summer.
