Hakuto Shrine

“Inaba no Shirousagi” is a character that is mentioned in a Japanese myth. The white rabbit who had its life saved arranged a match between the God “Ookuni Nushi no Mikoto” and the princess “Yakami Hime” as a sign of gratitude. And it is said this myth took place in Hakuto Shrine. Since it is said this myth is the oldest love story in Japan, Hakuto Shrine is known as the shrine of marriage and many people visit here from within and outside Japan. They have good-luck charms and ema, small wooden plaques to write prayers, related to love so you can’t miss this shrine if you wish to fulfill your love life.

Pray to the rabbit through “Musubi Ishi”

After you go through the shrine gate, you’ll see stone rabbit statues with different expressions and poses on both sides of the approach. When you look at them carefully, you can see many white stones that has the Chinese character “縁”, which literary means “bond,” in red. These stones are called “Musubi Ishi” and it is said if you put this stone with a wish, it will come true. Musubi Ishi is sold at Shamusho, the shrine office.

Adorable charms and fortune telling paper

Since this is the shrine of love, they have a lot of adorable charms and fortune-telling paper. “Shirousagi Mikuji”, which is in the shape of a rabbit, is especially popular. The fortune-telling paper is inside the rabbit and some people buy many of them because of its cuteness. The charms that have a knot in the shape of rabbit ears are also popular.
