The Glover Residence was built in 1863 as the residence of a Scottish trader, Thomas Blake Glover. It is the oldest wooden western architectural structure that exists in Japan and is registered as world heritage in July 2015. Viewing from the top, the roof is a shape of a four-leaved clover.

Glover Garden is illuminated from the middle of July to the beginning of October. They call this period “Glover’s Night” and extend the opening hours. All the houses including Glover Residence are illuminated and glitter beautifully together with the night view of Nagasaki city down below. They also have various events like a beer garden that goes with its fantastic atmosphere.

There are two heart-shaped stones on a path. It is believed that it will bring you good luck if you can find them. Although the location of those stones are marked on a map today, it is fun to find them by yourself.
Oura Catholic Church, the oldest wooden Church in Japan is located near Glover Garden. It was established in 1865 to dedicate to 26 saints who were martyred on an edict banning Christianity in 1597. It is a historically important building that is designated as a national treasure which is a rare case for a Western-style building.
Glover sky road is an elevator with a great view of the city of Nagasaki. It starts near Ishibashi Station in Nagasaki and goes up to the second gate of Glover Garden. You can see the view from the window of the elevator and the top of the elevator is a good viewpoint too.
