During spring through early summer at Ebino Kogen, one can see Nokaido flowers, which is a registered natural monument and unique to this area in the world, and Miyama Kirishima, the azalea species that represents Kirishima. In summer, Natsutsubaki (summer camellia) bloom and in autumn, trees take on the vivid colors of autumn leaves.
The Tsutsujigaoka (azalea hill), located in short walking distance from Ashiyuno Eki Ebino Kogen, is one of the best habitats of Miyama Kirishima within Kirishima Kinkowan National Park and has about 30,000 azalea bushes covering six hectares. The Miyama Kirishima, which bloom around late May through mid-June, create beautiful views with their various colors from light pink to light purple.
Byakushi-ike is a volcanic lake located in Ebino Kogen. This 250-meter wide and 1-meter deep volcanic lake can be approached up close to its shores to observe the shallow water through which you can clearly see the bottom of the lake.
