Located in the city of Akita in Akita prefecture, the theme of Akita Omoriyama Zoo is "Talk with animals in the forest." It is home to over 600 animals of 108 species and is designed to see the animals in their natural settings at a close range. The most popular attraction is the Manma Time (feeding time). Visitors can watch feeding demonstrations with a keeper's commentary. The Zoo holds various events throughout the year, including events where visitors interact with the animals and events of sketching the animals. In Asove no Mori (play forest), there is playground equipment surrounded by the animals for children to enjoy as well as the grown-ups.

In the Oja no Mori (forest of kings), you will find predatory animals including lions, Amur tigers, pumas, wolves and Asian black bears. The well-designed glass enclosure allows visitors to watch the animals from different angles.

Asove no Mori for Children and Grown-ups

There is large playground equipment with a 33-meter slide in the Asove no Mori. It is surrounded by the herbivorous animals, so you can see them while you enjoy playing. Not only children but also grown-ups will have a good time here. It has an observation deck on the top where you can see the Sea of Japan on a sunny day.
