Shiriyazaki

Shiriyazaki is the cape located on the north-east edge of Shimokita peninsula in Aomori prefecture and designated as Shimokita Hanto Quasi-National Park. One of the feature of the cape is the location between two ocean streams which are Tsugaru-Kaikyo Line on the north side and Pacific Ocean on the east side. Because of its unique location, in summer and fall, fishing fire for squid can be seen here. Since there was a farm of Nanbu-han (one of the Japanese samurai clan in Edo period), there are still “Kandachime,” a Japanese horse breed which is very strong against extreme cold climate, out feeding. We recommend you go to this scenic cape when you come to Aomori.

Have a good time with “Kandachime” up close

There is a grass field park around the lighthouse and Kandachime graze here. The body of the horses are strong against extreme cold winter. They have distinctive short legs and a long and wide body. This is a rare spot where you can see friendly horses taking a nap and eating grass up close.
