Narakashitsukasa Nakanishi Yosaburo is a long-standing Japanese sweets shop established in 1916. The Japanese-style cafe adjacent to the shop is in a renovated old Japanese-style house. It is a relaxing place where customers can enjoy healthy Japanese sweets while looking at the garden. The most popular menu is “Naramachi Dango” (180 yen per skewer), three different kinds of dumplings on a bamboo stick wrapped in bamboo leaves. Their original sweets are not only delicious but also pleasant to the eye. There are also packed lunches made with seasonal ingredients. It is located conveniently for customers to drop in during sightseeing.

Sweet Shaped Like a Traditional Lucky Charm, “Kojin-san” with Green Tea

The God worshipped this area is called “Kojin-san”, and there is a traditional lucky charm shaped as a monkey. Here in Nakanishi Yosaburo, they serve sweets called “Kojin-san” shaped like this monkey. “Kojin-san and green tea set” (830 yen) is the set of “Kojin-san”, made with pink-colored bean paste and white bean paste and tasty green tea.

Three-colored Naramachi Dango Wrapped in Bamboo leaf

Naramachi Dango (180 yen per skewer) is skewered dumplings formed of the one with green tea grown in Nara, the one with red bean paste, and the one with white miso. Those tasty dumplings are are wrapped in fragrant bamboo leaves. The cute dumplings will make a good souvenir too.
