Kyu-Furukawa Gardens

Kyu-Furukawa Gardens once used to be the residence of a baron that had build up his wealth. It is a valuable garden within Tokyo. During spring and autumn, approximately 180 rose plants comprised of 90 species bloom beautifully in its western-style garden by the impressive western-style residence and nostalgic Japanese garden.

Japanese Garden and Western Garden

You will find both a Japanese and a western-style garden here. The Japanese garden was designed by a famous gardener appointed from Kyoto and has a modern touch while still following the traditional style. The western-style garden is designed to go well with the Japanese garden and has a wide variety of gorgeous roses.

Spring Rose Festival

The Kyu-Furukawa Gardens are known for its rose garden and attract a lot of visitors during the Spring Rose Festival every year around mid-May to mid-June, depending on when the roses bloom. The sight of the approximately 180 rose plants of 90 species is a must-see! At night, the flowers are elegantly lit up.

Tea at the Western Residence with an air of Taisho-era Nostalgia

The main building, where guided tours are available, was designed by British architect Josiah Conder, who is also known for the designs of the Rokumeikan and Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Garden through the Meiji and Taisho eras. Cake and tea can be ordered in the salon in this western-style building.
