The city of Kuji in Iwate is known as a mining site of Japanese amber. Kuji Kohaku Museum is where documents on amber and on other decorative items made of amber are exhibited. Amber of Kuji is taken from the layers from approx. 5 million to 90 million years ago during the period when dinosaurs lived. Therefore, amber often contains fossilized endangered species of insects. Furthermore, you can also do some experiments or create accessories with amber in a hands-on program.
