Kamaishi Daikannon

Kamaishi Daikannon stands on the hilltop looking over Kamaishi Bay. Made of reinforced concrete, a 48.5-meter tall Kannon statue represents the Buddhist goddess of mercy. It is the biggest Gyoran Kannon in Japan. Although Gyoran Kannon is seen usually holding a basket or riding on a fish, Kamaishi Daikannon is a rare kannon statue that is holding a fish. Inside the statue, statues of Guanyin and Seven Lucky Gods are enshrined. You can also see the view from the observatory on the 12th floor situated at 120 meters above sea level.
