Kamabuchi Waterfall

Situated near Hanamaki onsen - famous hot spring bath in Iwate - Kamabuchi Waterfall named after the shape of the rock that looks like an upside down rice pot. The water of Daigawa river, that runs near the hot spring town, falls down from approx. 8.5 m high and 30 m large stone. This Kamabuchi Waterfall is chosen as the best scenery of Iwate "Scenic areas of Ihatov." You can enjoy its beautiful natural scenery from the promenade route.

This waterfall appears in a famous children story

Chosen as a national famous scenery, Kamabuchi Waterfall is loved by many people for its beauty. The great children story writer, Kenji Miyazawa, who is from the city of Hanamaki, also visited this waterfall. In his later work "Daigawa," this waterfall appears in the story as a place children take a school trip to.

Recommended promenade course

If you want to visit Kamebuchi Waterfall, I recommend you to take the promenade route. In fact, this promenade route takes you around the waterfall surrounded by trees. It takes about 15 min to go around. From this route, you can observe the waterfall from a close distance while enjoying the forest. Furthermore, this area is famous for fireflies. Therefore, the area is illuminated with the light of fireflies around the waterfall from the end of June to the middle of July.

Recommended view point: Takimibashi

Right near Kamabuchi Waterfall, there is a deck to observe the waterfall. Although you can enjoy the beautiful waterfall from there, I particularly recommend you to check the waterfall from Takimibashi bridge. From this bridge, you can look up and observe the waterfall from the bottom. You will enjoy a slightly different view of the waterfall from there.
