Kakamigahara Aerospace Science Museum

Located near Japan Air Self-Defense Force, Gifu air base, Kakamigahara Aerospace Science Museum displays aircrafts of Japanese make including the ones manufactured in Kakamigahara in Gifu prefecture, the city called “the city of aircrafts” along with various documents about space development. On display are about 35 fighter jets including replicas and experimental aircrafts, in addition to some interactive facilities such as a flight simulator machine and a space experience system. It is a facility where anyone from adults to children can enjoy learning about aircrafts. The cockpit of a large passenger aircraft is open to observation on Sundays and holidays. If you get a chance, do take a look!

Learn the History and Structure of Aircrafts at the Exhibition Hall

In the facility, many aircrafts including experimental crafts, fighter jets and passenger aircrafts are on display. They also have a corner to explain simply why and how aircrafts can fly using experiment equipment.

Corner to Learn About Space Development

There is an exhibition to learn about the world’s space technology development. You can see the full-scale replica of Mars space probe that was displayed in the American pavilion in the 2005 World Exposition in Japan, and the pictures of the surface of the Mars actually taken by the Mars space probe.

Fun Interactive Facilities for Families

In addition to the experience on a flight simulator, the facility also offers regular craft classes for families. Participants can make water rockets, Lego robots and so on. It is definitely a fascinating experience for both children and parents.

From Kakamigahara Shiyakusho-mae station on Meitetsu line, take Fureai Bus. Ride for 20 minutes and get off at Koku Uchu Hakubutsukan-mae.
