Jomon Sugi

Sandai Sugi, third generation cedar

About 3,500 years ago, the first generation cedar was born and had lived for about 2,000 years. The second generation grew over the first generation which became nurse logs and lived for about 1,000 years and now it has been 500 years since the third generation was born. In this forest, the sunlight does not reach the ground because of the concentrated trees, and this is why Yakusugi lived over generations.
