Jigokudani

Jigokudani (Hell Valley) is a big volcanic crater and can still be steaming all over. It is a must-see sightseeing spot that makes you imagine Hell as referred to in the actual name. The crater is about 500 meters in diameter, and there is a walking trail surrounding the mouth, which you can go through in one hour. In winter, a part of it may be closed, but as seasons change, the mountains change their colors, and you can enjoy a variation of the view. Copious amounts of hot water gushes out and runs down on the mountain to provide hot water to the hot spring resort area nearby. It's a good idea to stay overnight in this resort after seeing Jigokudani.
