The Heart Rock is located on the east coast of Tatsugo-cho in Amami Oshima, Kagoshima. A heart-shaped depression in the reef is filled with emerald green water, and its beautiful image was spread through social media. It is known as a power spot for romance. The Heart Rock can be seen only at low tide in spring, fall and winter. It appears only for a few hours a day making it mysterious, and people are drawn to it.

Exploring the Forest

A path will lead you to Heart Rock in the forest. You will walk through the jungle-like forest listening to the sounds of birds and animals. You will see the light and hear the sound of waves after going through a tunnel of Pandanus trees. Be careful not to walk in the bush as a hub pit viper might be hiding in the grass.

Ryukyu Chestnut Tiger Butterfly

On the pass in the forest to the Heart Rock, you might encounter beautiful black and blue butterflies called Ryukyu Asagi Madara (Chestnut Tiger Butterfly). The butterflies flying together in the forest is like a scene from a fantasy movie. They can be seen from December through March.
