Hamarikyu Gardens

(Source : 山に行こう!)
This garden used to belong to the Tokugawa Shogunate. After the Meiji era, it was part of the Imperial Palace and today it is open as a public park. Its characteristic is that it draws sea water from Tokyo Bay. Therefore, different sights can be enjoyed depending on the tide. A range of flowers can be seen in different seasons including sakura (cherry blossoms).

Co-Existence of Skyscrapers and a Traditional Garden

Inside a modern landscape of towering skyscrapers in the distance, this is an isolated garden surrounded by pine trees and tea houses. There are numerous gardens within Tokyo; however, only at Hamarikyu Gardens can you witness this very particular sight.

Otsutai-Bashi, the bridge that connects the edge of the pond with Nakajima, the island in the pond is a representative sight of the park. The bridge and tea house reflected on the water surface is picturesque. In the tea house on the island, matcha (green tea) and Japanese sweets can be ordered.
