Hakone Open-Air Museum

This is the first outdoor museum in Japan and was opened in 1969. It features over 120 sculptures, and includes the Picasso Pavilion with a collection of 300 pieces by Picasso and a foot bath from a natural hot spring. You can see the outdoor exhibits of art while enjoying the nature of Hakone. There are of course five indoor exhibits as well so visitors can still have a good time on rainy days. There are also artworks that children can touch and play with, so you can have fun with nature and art with the whole family.

Giant sculptures

Among the artworks, there are some so big that they could not be imagined in an indoor museum, or others that don't have an enclosure so you can have a closer look. It is a precious space where visitors can enjoy pieces of art, together with the changing colors of the season.

Picasso Pavilion

The Picasso Pavilion exhibits over 100 paintings and pottery pieces by the world famous artist, Pablo Picasso. The pieces are from a wide span of time, with some of them being from Picasso's youth and others from his later years - a great way to understand the changes his art went through in life.

Symphonic Sculpture

The Symphonic Sculpture that attracts happiness is a tower built by a French artist. There is a spiral staircase inside and stained glass all over the walls! It is a beautiful piece of art that shimmers at every step as you go up the stairs.
