Entsu-in

Entsu-in was built in 1647 and is a Buddhist temple registered as an important cultural heritage. It is awarded two Michelin Stars. Inside, there are stone and rose gardens and during autumn when the leaves turn red and yellow is said to be especially beautiful. In recent years, visitors coming for the "en-musubi kannon" that results in bringing good luck in relationships, have supposedly increased. Also, in the main hall with the Yosemune-style thatched roof and Matsushima town's cultural heritage Daihitei, visitors can experience making an original juzu (sacred beads).

Four Gardens

Inside, there are four gardens: Ungai Tenchi garden, Enshu garden, rose garden called Byakahou western garden, and Sankei Denzenrinmeiso garden. It portrays different landscapes such as cherry blossoms in spring, vivid flowers in summer, changing leaves in autumn and snow-covered views in winter.

En-musubi Kannon (Match-making God)

The en-musubi kannon on the left hand side of the sanmon gate has positive effects in bringing about good luck for relationships, be it romantic, professional, or other good connections. You write your name and a wish onto the en-musubi kokeshi (500 yen) and offer it to the enshrined deity with a prayer.

Beautiful Autumn Leaves Color the Gardens

Entsu-in is also a famous spot to view autumn leaves. As we get deeper into autumn, the trees in the gardens take on beautiful colors. The highlight is the yearly autumn leaves illuminations. Several spots including the trees are lit up and create a magical atmosphere that is different from the day. (Night time entry: general 500 yen, elementary and middle school students 200 yen)
