Jewellumination: the one and only gemstone illumination in the world!
Yomiuriland is an amusement park conveniently located only 30 minutes away from Shinjuku. A very popular amusement park surrounded by lush greenery, it has as many as 44 attractions including rides that make you scream or ones that kids can enjoy.
The awesome Yomiuriland is currently having its annual illumination event called Jewellumination. This year, for the first time in its nine-year history, six million lights are used to create a fantastical universe. The jewel-colored LED lights invite you to a world of radiance!
Breathtaking and beautiful: Eight areas designed with different themes.
Through the use of technology and gadgets, all the areas have been renewed this year adding to the already spectacular illuminations. The park is divided into eight areas: each of which has an original theme featuring a magnificent illumination. In this article, we introduce each area’s must-see points!
●Jade Garden
An area glittering with yellowish green lights! The different shades of green remind you of a vivid pastoral landscape. Bandit, the most popular roller coaster, glides through the night sky. This area also has many more attractions such as the Ferris wheel and Merry-go-round.
●Tanzanite Promenade
This is a 100-m long promenade brightly decorated with ball-shaped lights, which made its first appearance this year. The 400 thousand lights glimmering around you make this area fantastic. A parade called “Light-On Dance” takes place once a day.
●Pink Sapphire Town
This area is filled with soft, light pink lights. On the back of the street, there is a 140-m tunnel called Spiral Passage, with lights decorated onto the wall spirally. The lighting patterns change periodically creating varied atmospheres.
●Emerald Mountain
This 25-m high mountain of light is inspired by the Matterhorn, the famous mountain of the Alps. It is one of the must-see spots of this year’s Jewellumination. At Jewelry Slope, located in the middle of this jeweled mountain, you can enjoy tube sliding through the bright and colorful lights.
●Amber Forest
Lights ranging from yellow to orange hues recreate the atmosphere of an autumnal forest in this area. Among everything, Jewelry Folktale, a square with a huge jewel-shaped illumination is definitely photogenic! You can't miss this one!
●Blue Sapphire Fountain
This area is lit up in blue. Glittering blue lights wrap up the building of "Goodjoba!!" as if it is a huge gift box.
●Tourmaline Beach
In this area, the illumination embodies the beautiful sea, colorful flowers, and active volcanoes. Experience various essences created through lights here and enjoy the exotic atmosphere of a tropical beach.
●Diamond Aurora World
One of the most popular shows every year, the fountain show is on again this year! Three different shows can be seen every 15 minutes. You cannot miss Silhouette, a dance show created through the collaboration of lights and shadows! The stylish music, dynamic light works, and scintillating dance performance are simply awesome. Please note that this show is performed only twice a day.
You can have fun not only at night but also during the day!
Although Jewellumination is what everyone wants to see, it starts only after 4 pm. You might wonder if there is anything you can enjoy in the daytime. Of course, there is! Youmiuriland has many exciting attractions, so let's check them out.
◆Crazy Hyuuuu(red) and Crazy Stooon (yellow)
Crazy Hyuuuu shoots you up into the air with a force of 4G, and Crazy Stooon drops you with a force of 2G, the first of its kind in Japan.
◆Hashibiro GO!
A huge version of Disk'O, this popular attraction with an enormous disk spins at the same time it swings horizontally from right to left. Another first in Japan!
◆Looping Starship
A starship that swings wildly from side to side making a 360 degree turn before it stops!
◆Bandit
The most popular roller coaster that boasts a top speed of 110km/h, Bandit! Dashing far and wide through the forest, the Bandit lets you enjoy the scenic beauty of each season.
An attraction to experience craftsmanship, Goodjoba!, opened in March 2016. We recommend the Food Factory featuring Nissin Yakisoba U.F.O; something you don’t want to miss!
Japan’s first rafting attraction with a video game function, Splash U.F.O. It's so popular that many people queue for this attraction each and every day.
At the workshop, My U.F.O Factory, create your own original Nisshin Yakisoba U.F.O by choosing one sachet of your favorite seasoning and four toppings. There are about 5,460 possible combinations of the ingredients available! You can take it home and enjoy your original yakisoba, wouldn't this be a wonderful souvenir from your trip to Japan?
