Sapporo has been named as home to one of Japan’s top three night-time views, along with Kobe and Nagasaki. And if you’re looking to enjoy that view, then this is the spot for you! Mount Moiwa is close to Sapporo City and its 531 m summit can be easily accessed using the ropeway and Morris Car, a cable car service. There is also a restaurant and planetarium in the observatory area. There is a rich wildlife that calls this mountain home, and there is a hiking course for visitors to walk through and enjoy nature to its fullest.
This platform offers a 360-degree panoramic view, and a great view of the entire city of Sapporo. Couples visit the “Bell of Happiness” on the rooftop, where they vow their love for one another. Even in the cold winter season, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view from a glass viewing area.
THE JEWELS Observatory Restaurant
At this restaurant, guests can enjoy creative French dishes prepared using organic local and seasonal ingredients. All walls of the restaurant are made of glass, and the views are enough to take your breath away. Its a great spot for special occasions and parties.
Starball is a dome, 6 m in diameter, that uses a state of the art projector to display approximately 5 million stars on its ceiling. Visitors to the planetarium can enjoy the beautiful view that seems to stretch back and spread out into the sky, just like the real thing. How about comparing the view here, with that of the star-filled night sky seen from the mountain’s observatory deck? There is also an impressive 3D movie area.
You can take in the view of the forests covering Mount Moiwa, Sapporo, and even as far as Ishikari Bay, through the large glass windows of the ropeway gondolas. The gondolas have been given colors of squirrels and owls that live in the mountain, in order to preserve an aesthetic balance with the surrounding nature.
The distinctive design of the Morris Car makes it appear as if two gondolas are connected. It is the first mini-cable car using its current operating system. The journey lasts 1 minute and 40 seconds, as those on board enjoy the feeling of running through the forest.
There is a rich variety of wildlife living in this untouched forest. There are hiking paths suitable for beginners, but as the night is cold, it is necessary to bring sufficient clothing. There is a resting area and changing rooms for hikers located on the ground floor of the summit station.
