Hokoku-ji

(Source : pixta)
Hokoku-ji is a temple founded in 1334 and now known as a “bamboo temple.” As you walk past the gate, the path through a well-kept beautiful garden leads to the main hall and eventually to the bamboo grove after which this temple was named. Over 1,000 thick-stemmed bamboo grow straight towards the sky and create a fantastic space. There is a walking path so that visitors can walk around in this bamboo grove like one that appears in a fairy-tale. This unique feature makes Hokoku-ji one of the most popular temples among many temples and shrines in Kamakura.

It is a bit cooler in the bamboo grove compared to other areas. It is a good place to escape from the heat in summer. Unlike cherry trees or maples, bamboo grove doesn’t have seasonal changes.
